OUR MISSION

For over 25 years MichBio has been driving bio-industry growth in Michigan by providing access to resources and information critical to success, advocating for policy decisions that support the long-term viability of the life sciences, and connecting the people, companies, and ideas necessary to create the next generation of bio-innovation.

OUR VISION

MichBio will be the most valued organization in Michigan for the biosciences industry by being its recognized voice as well as its foremost source of information, advocacy, and resources.

OUR GOALS

Our mission encompasses broad industry sub-sector representation including pharmaceuticals and therapeutics (human and animal health, generics and OTCs), medical devices, diagnostics, research tools, informatics (healthcare and bio-informatics), nutritional health (nutriceuticals), clinical research, industrial biotechnology, and bio-fuels and bio-agriculture.

Stephen T. Rapundalo, PhD

Dr. Rapundalo, has broad experience in the life sciences, with an extensive background in pharmaceutical research and development. Prior to joining MichBio in April 2006, he spent almost 20 years as a senior research scientist, project manager, and group leader with Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical Research and then Pfizer, Inc., primarily in the area of cardiovascular drug discovery.

Dr. Rapundalo also led a global interdisciplinary team that developed a strategic, operational and organizational change management program to improve Pfizer's worldwide R&D business processes. He has a strong background in innovation and is an internationally recognized expert in a number of technology areas including high-throughput screening and proteomics, among others.

Dr. Rapundalo has a superb record of scientific achievement with over 50 publications, book chapters, and monographs. He has served as a peer-reviewer for a variety of prominent scientific journals and national funding agencies. In addition, he continues to be active in a broad range of industry and governmental initiatives including intellectual property commercialization, talent recruitment and retention, science education and economic development.

Dr. Rapundalo has been a community advocate and civic leader for almost 20 years and formerly served as an elected member of the City Council in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Emily Brockman

Emily is an experienced fundraiser and customer relationship manager. Prior to joining MichBio, Emily served as the Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship at Albion College where she was responsible for communicating with donors and stewarding their funds to causes they found valuable, developing processes for tracking fund usage, and projecting the value of Albion College. Simultaneously, Emily has been active in the patient advocate community including the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society acting as a fundraiser, event coordinator, and campaign manager, the American Cancer Society, and Camp Quality. Her expertise is in understanding constituent personas and communications that deepen relationships and convey the organization's value.

Emily has a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from Goodwin University and a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Biology from Michigan State University. Emily is active in the community with significant volunteer experience and has been recognized for her work with the American Cancer Society and other organizations.

Carrie Hranko

Carrie brings experience in process optimization, finance management, and a background in HR to the MichBio team. No stranger to small teams, Carrie has spent much her career in community based organizations bringing a "all hands on deck" personality and willingness to take on new responsibilities.

Carrie is a mother of two, an avid crocherer, and relentless problem solver.

Jamie is MichBio's Director of Marketing & Industry Engagement. With 18 years under her belt in marketing, communications, and public relations, she’s made her mark working with statewide member-based associations in Michigan. Jamie thrives on connecting with communities, crafting innovative strategies, and telling stories that truly resonate.

She earned her Bachelor’s in Science in Communications from Eastern Michigan University. Outside of her professional life, Jamie is kept busy by her lively blended family, which includes two kids and four stepkids. In her spare time, you might find her boating, exploring new destinations, or teeing off on the golf course. And when it comes to sports, she’s a loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers and Lions.
