MichBio Supports Emphasis on Education and Talent Development – State Policy
MichBio co-signed a letter from the University Research Corridor (URC) and Michigan Association of State Universities (MASU) as part of a testimony package presented to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Universities and Community Colleges by MASU Director, Dan Hurley.
Michigan has an opportunity to do a great many things to set the course for long term competitiveness and prosperity with availability of one-time federal funding and state tax revenues. Some of these priorities are outlined in the recent Crain’s Detroit Business Forum on the future of the state’s economy, such as supporting Michigan students in gaining an education at our public universities, commercializing innovation created at universities in partnership with the private sector, and investing in innovation districts that are shaping the future of the bioscience and other industries.
To be clear, MichBio is equally concerned about sustaining a workforce pipeline for trades and non-degreed talent. We are an active voice to have the State support customized training programs that enhance workforce opportunities for biopharmaceutical, medical product and industrial biotech manufacturing positions.
