  • Who can become a member of MichBio?

Organizations and Individuals. Membership is open to any company, organization, educational institution, or government office involved with and/or interested in advancing bio- and life-sciences investment, research, commercialization, technology, or products, and any individual that is not currently tied to a company, an educator at a K-12 school or academy, or a student at a college or university.

    Examples include:

    • Bioscience companies
    • Service providers to bioscience companies
    • Manufacturers and suppliers
    • Colleges and universities
    • Research organizations
    • Non-profits and government agencies
  • Does my company need to be headquartered or have an office location in the state of Michigan to become a member?

No. Your company or organization can be located anywhere in the world. MichBio members range from small emerging businesses to large, multi-national corporations. Many of our members call Michigan home, but a fair number also reside outside of the state.

  • If my company is a subsidiary of a current member, am I a member?

Maybe. Membership is based on legal status. If your subsidiary is incorporated as a separate business or entity, then you would not be a member and would need to join independently.

Organizational divisions, departments, or offices that fall under the legal umbrella of the parent corporation however are considered members, as long as the parent corporation's membership is in good standing.

  • What term length are memberships?

1 year. Memberships run on an annual cycle from the date of sign-up through the following calendar year. There are no predetermined membership periods or payment times, outside of your company's specific renewal date.

Example: A membership for a company that joined on April 25, 2019, would expire on April 24, 2020.

  • What is the cost of membership?

Varies. General organization membership is calculated by the total number of employees (full-time and equivalent) employed by your company or organization.

Individual memberships are available at rates specific to students at a nonmember college or university, educators at K-12 schools or academies, and in-transition industry professionals.

Premium membership is based on different support levels and includes your organization's membership dues for the year. Premium levels offer additional benefits, advertising opportunities, event passes, and more.

  • Is there an introductory membership rate for emerging or start-up bioscience companies?

Yes. Bioscience companies that have been founded within the last two years, are legally incorporated, have less than five employees, and have never been a MichBio member, good for one year (may be renewed one time for a total of two years at $200/year). After the introductory membership has expired, dues will be calculated based on the total number of employees (general organization membership).
